Kashmir rewards travellers who match season to route and keep a little slack in the schedule. This guide is how we brief guests from our Lawaypora, Srinagar office before we wire hotels, houseboats, and drivers.
When to visit
There is no single “best” month — only the best fit for your trip style. Use our bloom & snow calendar for a month-by-month view, or start the trip planner if you already know your dates.
- March–May: Tulips, Mughal gardens, mild Srinagar days — ideal for honeymoon and garden-first routes.
- June–August: Lush valleys and Pahalgam rivers — plan for occasional rain and cooler Gulmarg evenings.
- September–November: Clear skies and autumn Chinar colour — photographers and slow travellers love this window.
- December–February: Gulmarg snow and crisp meadow light — read our winter FAQ for road realism.
The classic circuit (and how to pace it)
Most first visits combine Srinagar, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam, with an optional Sonamarg day. A common mistake is treating each stop as a one-night tick box. We usually recommend:
- Two soft nights in Srinagar (houseboat or lakeside hotel) before long drives.
- Gulmarg as a full day or overnight depending on snow interest.
- Pahalgam with at least one slow morning — Betaab and Aru are better without a midnight return.
Compare ready-made routes on our packages page or side-by-side compare tool.
Getting there from India’s metros
Most guests fly into Srinagar (SXR). We arrange private airport transfers as part of most quotes.
- Kashmir tours from Delhi — flights, long-weekend pacing, and winter tips.
- Kashmir holidays from Mumbai — connectivity, monsoon overlap, and family pacing.
Stays: houseboats, hotels, and tiers
Dal Lake houseboats are iconic but seasonal in feel — we help you decide houseboat vs hotel nights. Hotel tier (standard, premium, luxury) changes the ballpark more than swapping one garden for another. Try an instant range in the planner or request a formal quote on contact.
Beyond the brochure
When you have extra days, we look at Doodhpathri, Yusmarg, or offbeat Gurez. Browse all destinations or read recent ideas on the blog.
